What should you look out for when buying a steam bath generator?

The output of the steam generator depends on the volume of the steam bath. To calculate the volume, simply multiply the length, width and height of the room. This then gives you the volume.

An example:

Suppose your steam bath has a length of 2 metres, a width of 2 metres and a height of 2 metres. This results in a volume of 8 m³.
In this case, a steam generator with 9 kW would be sufficient.

It is important to choose the Harvia steam generator with the right power. When you switch on the steam generator, the steam room should be heated to a temperature of about 43 °C with almost 100 % humidity after about 10 minutes. As soon as the temperature is reached, the generator pauses until the temperature drops by around 2 °C. Steam is then produced constantly until the temperature drops again. Steam is then constantly generated again until the cabin temperature has reached the desired temperature again.

If the steam generator output is too low, the temperature will only rise very slowly. When the steam bath door is opened and warm air escapes from the steam bath, it takes much longer to reach the desired temperature again, especially compared to a more powerful generator. In addition, a steam generator that is too weak runs constantly at full power and therefore also constantly produces steam.

If the steam generator is too powerful, there is a risk that the steam bath will heat up too much. This can cause the walls and seating surfaces to become very hot and the room air absorbs this heat, resulting in barely noticeable cooling. When the generator reaches the set temperature, the output is reduced, which also reduces steam production. Only when the steam bath door is opened or the temperature drops, for example, does the generator start producing steam again.
