If the wiring of your sauna or the entire electrical circuit has not been properly installed or maintained, this can also lead to fuse or RCD tripping. Ensure that all cables and connections are properly connected, insulated and in good condition. Again, it is advisable to consult a professional to ensure that your sauna's electrical systems are installed and functioning safely and correctly.

How do I find out which sauna heating element is installed?

The information required for this can be found on the type plate of the sauna heater, which every heater must have. No sauna heater may be sold without a type plate!

The rating plate is a small metal plate attached to the sauna heater by the manufacturer. It contains a wealth of information such as model name, article number, technical data and other important information. This plate is often found on the back, side or underside of the heater. On some models, it may be necessary to remove a cover or housing to access it.

How do I change a sauna heating element?

Instructions for replacing a sauna heating element

Remember that the steps may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer and model of your sauna heater.

1.De-energise the sauna heater: Before you start, make sure that your sauna heater is completely de-energised. To do this, switch off the sauna heater and pull the plug out of the socket or switch off the relevant fuses. Safety always takes priority when handling electrical appliances.

2.Remove the stones from the heater: Remove all sauna stones from the heater. This makes the heater lighter.

3.Remove the heater from the wall bracket: To avoid scratches or damage, place the heater on a soft surface, such as an old blanket or a large towel.

4.Remove the cover: Depending on the model and manufacturer of your heater, the cover may be located on the back or bottom of the heater. Remove this cover to gain access to the heating elements and to reach the connection terminals of the electrical supply cable.

5. check whether the sauna heater is de-energised: To do this, use a voltmeter to check whether voltage is present at the heater connection terminals.

6.Disconnect the cable from the heating element: Each heating element is connected to two cables that supply the electrical energy for heating. Carefully disconnect these cables from each heating element.

7.Loosen the screw or nutsDepending on the model, each heating element is attached to the inside of the heater with a screw or two nuts. Remove these fasteners to be able to remove the heating element from the oven.

8.Remove the heating element from the oven and insert the new heating element: Once you have removed the fastening, you can remove the defective heating element and insert the new heating element into the oven.

9.Attach the heating element and reconnect the connection cable: Secure the new heating rod in the oven using the previously removed screw or nuts. Then reconnect the cables to the heating element.

10.Refit the cover on the heater: Now it is time to refit the cover.

11.Installing the sauna heater: You can now refit the sauna heater to the wall. Make sure that you maintain the correct position and alignment of the heater.

12.Connect the heater to the power supply: Now that the heater is securely attached to the wall, you can reconnect the appliance to the power supply. Switch the appropriate fuse back on and switch the heater on to ensure that it is working properly.

13.Briefly check that all heating elements are warm: Run the sauna heater for a short time - 1 minute should be sufficient. Carefully feel whether all the heating elements are getting warm. This is an indicator that the new heating elements are correctly installed and working. But be careful to avoid burns.

14.Replace the sauna stones according to the manufacturer's instructions:The final step is to reinsert the sauna stones. Make sure to position them according to the manufacturer's instructions. A correctly inserted pile of stones enables optimum heat distribution and ensures the best sauna experience.

Furthermore, the replacement of the sauna stones should not be neglected. For private use, it is advisable to change the stones every two years; for companies in the commercial sector, it is even advisable to change them every year. The extreme heat loads can cause parts of the stones to crumble and obstruct the upward circulation of air. In addition, the stones lose their ability to store heat over the years, which can impair the efficiency of the sauna heater.

Why doesn't the sauna get hot?
